Five minor girls from Bordumsa rescued at Itanagar
CHANGLANG, June 25: The Changlang police rescued five minor girls from Itanagar yesterday and registered criminal case against three persons for ‘trafficking’ these girls from Bordumsa, according to an official release.
Acting on a complaint, a Police team of Bordumsa Police station arrived Itanagar, rescued all five minor girls between 9 to 15 years of age. The girls were safely handed over to their parents after medical examination, the release added.
Meanwhile, criminal case against Ladu Yekar of Daporijo, Taro Jeram of Nacho colony, Itanagar and Apo Jeram of Leki village, Nirjuli have been registered at Bordumsa Police Station for trafficking these girls from Bordumsa through one lady named Papu Rani ( who is no more) and keeping them as domestic help in Itanagar. ITANAGAR, June 25: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today gave 24 hours time to the Govt for termination of SDPO Bomge Kamduk for his alleged assault on AAPSU president Kamta Lapung inflicting head injury here today. Lapung was physically manhandled by police personnel led by SDPO Kamduk when he (Lapung) was trying to enter Police Station demanding fair treatment and release of activists detained by the police during its 12 hours capital bandh today, said AAPSU general secretary Biru Nasi. The AAPSU GS was addressing the mediapersons in a hurriedly convened press meet at Press Club here this evening in the wake of arrest of AAPSU president and his alleged manhandling. “Our seven point charter of demand will be remained the same, however we are also demanding immediate termination of SDPO Kamduk”, Nasi added.
Nasi informed that decision to give 24 hours bandh relaxation after its 12 hours capital bandh is taken considering the hardship faced by the public during the bandh hours.
Nasi accompanied by All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) president Byabang Joram hinted that bandh may be resumed from 5 pm tomorrow if the AAPSU president Kamta Lapung and other activists who were languishing in Jullang district jail were not released and their demands are not met.
Nasi strongly condemned the conduct of responsible police officer, who, according to Nasi, took the law into his own hand by charging AAPSU president without slight provocation.
On being enquired, the general secretary said, “Our fight is not against people, we are ready to roll back if government agrees to fulfill our demands”.
AAPSU denied involvement of car burning incident at E sector and said that their activists were clearly instructed not to resort to such condemnable acts. It said that few miscreants may be involved while taking undue advantage to tarnish AAPSU image.
AAPSU called for the 12 hours capital bandh to protest non fulfillment of its seven point charter of demands by the state government. AAPSU’s demands included discontinue of the appointment of Chairman and vice chairman, early release of stipend, white paper on financial status, uninterrupted power and drinking water supply. The bandh crippled the normal lives in the Capital with public and private vehicles were off the road. Apart from altercation and detention of activists, stray incident of violence like stone pelting, damage and burning down of car were also reported during the 12 hours Capital bandh.
Throwing the weight behind the apex students union, All Nyishi Students’ Union and Arunachal Law Students Union strongly condemned the physical charges on Lapung and extended solidarity with AAPSU in their demands. ALSU said such action from law protector is unwarranted and can destroy relation between police and student communities.
Byaling launches tirade against AAPSU
ITANAGAR, June 25: Home Minister Tanga Byaling while talking to press persons this afternoon came down heavily on AAPSU and stated that, “Though, democracy guarantees the right to protest but it doesn’t approve the method of violence.”
He alleged that AAPSU activist’s burn down vehicles by forcefully taking them out from garages and parking areas which is very wrong practice. Byaling also rebuffed the seven point charter of demands made by the AAPSU. “The demands made by the union are not at all valid because they are the daily routines of the government works.” He also said that AAPSU is not supposed to run a parallel government, “hence to demand a white paper to the government is not at all valid.”
When asked about the possibility of negotiating with the student union, Byaling said, “There is no provision for negotiation with them as their demands are not genuine. Had they been talking about the educational sectors then we could have appreciated them.”
He also said that earlier government through a Parliamentary Secretary and also with the help of Kumar Waii, RWD minister had tried to talk with the AAPSU. “But they never turned up for the negotiation,” claimed Byaling.

Spices Board approves establishment of Mini Spices Park at Itanagar
ITANAGAR, June 25: The Spices Board of India has given its approval for the establishment of a Mini Spices Park for Ginger at Itanagar in collaboration with the State Government, informed Spices Board member from the North Eastern region Dr. Hatobin Mai.
He also said that the land for the same will be provided by the State Government and the Spices Board will give technical and strategic support for the establishment of the Mini Spices Park.
During the meeting held at Kochi on June 23 last, Dr Mai called for restructuring and revamping the Spices Board to increase its outreach in the potential states of the North Eastern Region with special emphasis on Arunachal Pradesh. He mentioned that the policy framework of the Spices Board has to be aligned with the challenges of the Region. He highlighted the difficult climatic conditions of the North Eastern Region like prolonged monsoon season and vulnerabilities to natural disasters which pose unique challenges to the cultivators. He appealed for “a proper safety net for the cultivators in the form of increased subsidies, infrastructure provisions and other related factors which may be specially considered for the Region”.

While calling for revising the existing schemes which are nominal in nature Dr. Mai also requested the Board to consider special schemes for Skill Development, Technology Upgradation and Entrepreneurship Development.
The Board assured that infrastructure development and optimum manpower deployment in the Region will be undertaken in a phased manner. The Board also resolved that more emphasis will be given to NE States for organic spices and a proper road map will be prepared from here onwards and awareness programmes like interstate field visits of farmers and other stakeholders would be taken up soon. The Board would also set up Spices Parks in Meghalaya and Manipur.
While focussing on the natural menaces to cultivation in Arunachal Pradesh, Dr. Mai stressed on an integrated approach to provide requisite infrastructure for mitigation of the same for the benefit of the cultivators. The Board in response resolved to initiate a Pilot Programme to safeguard the large cardamom plantations in the state by providing barbed wire fencings to farmers. The Board sought details from the Horticulture Department of the state to formalize this programme for early implementation.
In a separate meeting with Dr. A Jayathilak, Chairman of Spices Board, India Dr.Mai discussed other issues in detail. The Chairman hoped that inclusion of a member from the North Eastern Region in Spices Board would strengthen the scope of the Board in the future. The Chairman also informed Dr. Mai that a Board Meeting will be convened in Arunachal Pradesh soon where a large expert’s delegation will come to the state to explore its potential.
School authority expels erring principal

DAPORIJO, June 25: The Principal of Si Donyi Public School Daporijo accused of keeping 19 students in illegal confinement after beating them has been expelled from the school. Action was also taken against other staff involved in the incident.
While informing about the drastic step taken against the erring principal and other staff of the school, the school authority said that whoever will try to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the school will not be left unpunished. No incident of this kind will be repeated in the school in near future, the school authority assured. “We will put our best effort to impart quality education to the students and create homely atmosphere in the hostel campus,” the school authority added.
The parents have welcomed the decision of school authority for taking immediate action against the principal and initiating stern action against other staff involved. They promised to cooperate with the school authority in taking any decision for the welfare of student.
Earlier, All Tagin Students’ Union and the parents and guardians of the victim students had demanded immediate expulsion of the accused school principal and stern action against all other staff involved in the incident.

People’s cooperation sought to make Papu Valley a tourists’ hotspot

ITANAGAR, June 25: With Papu river silently meandering through, the scenic beauty of Papu Valley better known as “rice bowl” of East Kameng has finally caught the attention of the tourism department as Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism Mama Natung and Secretary Tourism Dr. Joram Beda along with Govt officers visited the valley on Sunday with a mission to access its tourism potentiality.
Later both of them addressed the public at Govt Secondary School, Lumdung. Addressing the people Mama Natung said that development cannot be possible in absence of peace and tranquility. Papu Valley can be hot tourist spot if its tourism potential is properly harnessed, he said adding that proposal has already been sent to Delhi for development of the valley as one of the most attractive tourist destinations. Sensitizing the people, he cited Atithi Devo Bhavah, a campaign started by the Tourism Department, under Union Ministry of Tourism with the theme Incredible India, Natung added that for tourism promotion people of the valley need to be sensitized and develop friendly and welcoming nature towards tourists. He further said that though the valley is blessed with rich tourism potential, it would be worthless unless the people cooperate with officers in the developmental process. Responding to memorandum submitted by PRI leader seeking adequate fund for tourism promotion of the valley, Parliamentary Secretary assured to look into each point of the representation and said that he would discuss it with Tourism Minister.
Secretary Tourism Dr Joram Beda emphasized on the significance of road and communication in tourism promotion saying that without road infrastructure tourism development is not possible. Dr. Joram extolled the beauty of Papu valley and appealed to the people to preserve its natural beauty by refraining from unabated hunting of birds and animals.
He also exhorted that the valley has tourism potential, however cooperation from the public is necessary to make it a reality. He urged the people to pay their attention towards tourism sector as the tourism is sustainable sector in terms of economic development.
Former Minister Hari Natung in his address requested both to put extra effort in making the valley a mega tourist destination. Besides making Papu Valley a mega tourist destination, approached road to Patha Sadang (water fall) and tourist lodge in the area are sought by the public in their memorandum. The meeting was attended by PRI leaders, Goan Burahs and officers.
Apart from meandering Papu River, the valley is abounding with oxbow lakes, migratory birds and rich aquatic species.

3rd workshop on city sanitation action plan held
PASIGHAT, June 25: The 3rd workshop on City Sanitation Action Plan of Pasighat Municipal Council was organized today under the chairmanship of the Chief Councillor Denong Tamuk in the PMC conference hall. Around 40 participants including Chairman Zila Parishad Kaling Dai, officers from various departments and members of City Sanitation Task Force (CSTF) attended the workshop. The main objective of the workshop was to explain the various interventions required to solve the sanitation issues of the city, various funding options for the identified projects and their implementation strategies.

AALO, June 25: District Agriculture Officer Tomi Basar had convened a review meeting of the District Food Security Mission Committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman DFSMC M K Sahoo at his office chamber on June 23 last. The meeting was also attended by Er. Tame Tasing, EE WRD, Karyom Doji, DHO, Kiran Kumar, Scientist KVK Basar, Doi Ado, former minister and officers from agriculture department and progressive farmers.
Presiding over the meeting, Sahoo underlined the need for imparting necessary trainings to the farm community where the farmers could utilize the knowledge in field conditions. He also urged the department to pick the needy and deserving farmers through field level workers to whom the agriculture inputs could be provided to encourage them and suggested the department to introduce new innovative ideas which could be added technologies to the farmers. Doi Ado, former minister, lauded the DAO and his team of officers for their tremendous efforts in smooth implementation of the programme and exhorted the need to reach out to the farmers in remote areas to educate them and expand the paddy cultivation areas.
Tomi Basar, DAO said that the department will put relentless efforts to educate the farmers at field conditions to disseminate the technologies of modern farming to bring about noticeable changes in the farm production. He also sought suggestions from the members which could be instrumental in timely and smooth implementation of rice intensification programme. Politicians should stop
patronization of criminals
Home Minister Tanga Byaling deserves some applause for his continuous effort to make capital complex crime free city. In a major decision, home minister Byaling yesterday directed Superintendent of police to ensure checking of all vehicles irrespective of any class or position. Taking serious note of the report that some UG/miscreants are using vehicles fitted with red beacon and even police escort team to easily cross the check gates, Byaling directed strict checking of VIP vehicles.
With home minister strongly backing police force, there is general hope that situation will improve in capital complex in days to come. There is urgent need to take stringent measures to bring down crime rate in capital. Politicians have to take first step in this regard. They should stop interfering in the work of police. One of the main reasons for increase in crime rate is patronization of criminals by politicians. If this stops, crime will naturally come down.

Democracy as defined by the constitution is for the people, by the people and of the people. True to the above lines, India being a Democratic country represents people from all sections of society. Right to vote is the right given to every citizen of India to elect their representatives. Voting is the basic right of an individual and this right should be used judiciously in order to elect a representative, government or leader. One should introspect what we have achieved in the past years under the leadership and governance of the chosen leader whether he/she has fulfilled the promises and has met with the expectations of the people or not, or whether it was just a political gimmick to attract the vote banks.
Before elections massive campaigns, rallies and Dharnas are held, different political parties have their mandates, arguments and discussions, in fact there is a marathon going on for the party tickets and filing of nominations.
The Netas spend sleepless nights in pursuit to gain the political power or better described as “Khursi”. With the declaration of Election dates, political parties create different manifestoes promising social, economic and political development, better living standard, special development packages and schemes.
Before the voting, it is in the hands of Aam aadmi to seal the fate of candidates.
We as a common people has a major Contribution in changing the dimension of Nation-
The Election Commission of India has been taking a greater part in curbing the process of money flow during Elections and many laws had been passed to protect the right of Voting.
Democracy and its true meaning is being tarnished by the politicians in broader sense but not to point fingers on politicians alone, it is the wrong trend set by the people that has led to such a niche of ‘paisa do vote lo’.

Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to appreciate the bandh call executed by AAPSU. Since Arunachal Pradesh doesn’t have strong opposition party in Legislative assembly, the role of AAPSU is really appreciable.
Our government never pay attention to public grievances even though we are going through many problems like worse road condition in capital complex, shortage of electricity, water, destruction of forest and earth cutting.
We dont have air conditions in our homes to remain cool in summer and luxurious SUV to travel in capital roads.
To give a better look to capital, it hardly needs a year. I think Itanagar is the worst capital in India in terms of development.
Last but not the least I would like to add that it’s very easy to say but hard to accomplish''. Hope our beloved leaders will come out from SUVs!

I would urge some of the unregistered organizations to stop defaming the name of DDSE West Siang unnecessarily.
If there is any truth behind their allegations, it will all come out soon as the case is under strict vigilance of the administration concern. The unnecessary allegations on a reputed officer of West Siang will not be tolerated at any cost.
